This was a fab recipe I made a few years ago, perfect for this time of year with apples falling off the trees.
On my allotment, I have 3 apple trees – a Bramley because they are so useful for cooking, a James Grieve because it reminds me of my grandparents who had one in the garden and a Crispin Bush, a new late fruiting one for storing. I planted the Crispin Bush a couple of years ago because the James Grieve apples do not store well.
I now have boxes in my shed which should just about see me into the new year. I have also frozen lots of stewed apple and cinnamon and apple and blackberry in individual portions for breakfasts with yoghurt.
Anyway, I now make this recipe with our own gluten free plain flour which makes the tray bake even more delicious! It’s so easy to make and can be enjoyed whatever time of day – served warm as a yummy dessert or as a perfect accompaniment to afternoon tea.
